2021 Season Awards/Recap

Sep. 21, 2021

Two years later the Cubs repeat as Sunburst Champions and will represent Alberta at the 2022 Nationals in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Lets quickly recap this wild season.

After the 2020 season was cancelled due to COVID the Cubs were ecstatic to get back on the field for the 2021 season. The Cubbies came out ice cold out of the gate getting swept by the Tigers to begin the season. The Cubs quickly came out of hibernation and won the next 11 games in a row, a new team record. To add, this was also done with 7 different starters in those 11 games. The Cubs would go on to finish the regular season with a franchise record 13 wins and clinch first place. In the first round of playoffs, the Cubs swept the Tigers in two games using only two pitchers to help rest the rest of the pitching staff for the finals. In the finals, the Cubs went up 2 games to 0, but then lost two thrilling games back to back to push the series to a 5th winner take all final game. The Cubs went down early 1-0, but quickly took the lead back in the bottom of the first and never looked back behind Tony Olson’s third complete game of the playoffs.
