With the 2021 season kicking off in less than 24 hours, we can finally do a Season Preview of the 2021 Edmonton Cubs.
The Cubs look to defend their provincial title in 2019 and earn a spot to 2022 Nationals next summer in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This years roster is nearly identical to that 2019 championship roster with some key offseason additions and players returning from injury. Jackson Wark (St. Louis University) is a big addition to the Cubs pitching rotation and Braeden Heyland (Okanagan CC) will be a great versatile addition to the batting order and pitching staff. Three Former Edmonton Prospects will be returning from injury in 2019 this season; Dean Olson (Douglas CC), Derek Shedden (Northeastern State University) and Brenden Wiun (Chandler-Gilbert CC). Taylor Thomas (Okanagan CC) and Jarvis Greiner (Biola University) will lead the starting rotation once again. 2019 Cubs MVP Tony Olson (UBC) will be back two-waying again. Cubs veterans Clay Davis (Okanagan CC) , Garrett Cyr (Glendale CC) Cory Scammel (PBA), Blake Davis (TRU), Ryan Kosolofski (Colby CC), Dave Leblanc (Husson University) and Nathan Wedgewood (VIU) are all returning as well after very strong years in 2019. And of course, Dan Chappel (Mayville State University) is back for another season sitting in the heart of the Cubbies lineup.
With John Fry Park going under renovation in July, the Cubs are excited to announce their home games from July on will take place at RE/MAX Field. The Cubs have also added two jerseys to the rotation with home pinstripes and grey road jerseys.
We are very excited to get the season underway here and hope to see you out at the park. Be sure to follow along our Twitter @EdmontonCubs for all the latest updates and news.
